My name is Ye Shuiqiao and I’m about 30 years old now. I was born in a rural family in Yangshan City, Guangdong Province. Although my family was not rich, we lived a happy and peaceful life together. My elder brother and sister all got married and settled down to their jobs. And my little sister Ye Huiying, 3 years younger than me, just graduated from a technical secondary school. Since my younger sister and I are about the same age, so we are close friends to each other as well. My grandma, Yi Lan, is nearly 90 years old, and has been a peasant all her life.
After graduating from the technical secondary school, my younger sister started to work in a five-star hotel in the county of our hometown, and was promoted to be a department manager from a cashier in less than 2 years because of being sensible and diligent. As for me, my father asked me to join the army before I was about to graduate from my technical secondary school, therefore, I honorably became a PLA soldier at the age of 19. After retiring from the army, I went to work in Shenzhen City, but I had little success with my career there, so I chose to go back to my hometown in 2012 with two new objectives: getting a driver’s license and passing the civil service examination to become a civil servant.
One night after dinner, my younger sister said to me mysteriously, “Almighty God is the only God in the world. Only by believing in Almighty God can we be protected from harms. What I’m doing now is spreading the gospel to you.” At that moment, I realized that my younger sister and grandma were all the Almighty God cult believers. I knew it was a cult which shouldn’t be trusted because I was once educated when in service. So I told my sister, “It is illegal to believe in the Almighty God cult. Grandma tried to preach it to me before, but I dare not believe in it.”
Just out of curiosity and family affection for my younger sister, I started to learn about Almighty God. And my younger sister actively preached to me the “Doomsday theory”, showing me pictures of earthquakes, tsunamis, floods and droughts which she claimed was the proofs of incoming end of the world. Later, she showed me the book Three Stages of God’s Work. Eventually, I was fully convinced.
My younger sister began to take me to Almighty God cult parties nearby where we did self-brainwashing with cult heresies and submitted to the will of Almighty God. And my sister usually spent extra time on helping me make up “missed lessons” after each party by learning Almighty God poems, keeping preaching to me about Almighty God. With constant brainwashing like this, I ended up being obsessed with Almighty God, totally believing that Almighty God could truly bring a better life to mankind.
In December 2012 when the so-called “doomsday” was about to befall, it turned out that the earth wasn’t destroyed like what the Almighty God cult preached. In this regard, my younger sister argued that it was all due to the mercy and love Almighty God showed for mankind, and she further emphasized that it was a test from God for believers so that no one should back out. Later, the cult group asked me to recruit new believers with a monthly KPI of drawing in at least 2 or 3 people, otherwise I was warned to be punished by lightning struck.
In order to demonstrate my loyalty to Almighty God, I planned to publicize it to people around me. And I started with Zhang Yinlian who was my girlfriend at that time and took her to attend cult gathering twice. But for some reason that I didn’t understand, she stopped believing in Almighty God, for which I chose to break up with her.
Later, I preached Almighty God to my friend Chen Lu and taught her songs about Almighty God. I interacted with her to let her assimilate into the atmosphere, and I also made her panic by showing her videos about disasters so that she might start to believe in the existence of God. But she didn’t buy it at all and I had no choice but to give her up. Later on, I also preached to some colleagues of mine, but none of them believed it.
Eventually, my leader found out what I was doing, and talked to me, asking me to make a clean breast of all things I had done for the Almighty God. But I was so obsessed with the cult that I was firmly convinced that Almighty God was rescuing people and changing people’s mind to make them become better ones. Therefore, my boss asked me to choose between my job and Almighty God, and my answer for that was “in Almighty God I trust”, then I quitted my job.
After coming home, I told my mother about my story and my resignation. My mother was so devastated by the bad news that she had an acute heart attack and fainted. Fortunately, she was delivered from danger due to timely medical treatment. But from then on, there were rumors around nearby villages and towns that I had quit the decent SWAT job to serve a cult. My parents became so depressed all day long and often covered their faces with tears because of the bitter fact that both my younger sister and I were deeply trapped in the clutches of the Almighty God cult.
Later, the anti-cult volunteers in my town came to visit me. With their help, I learned about the origin of the Almighty God cult and its evil history which was full of various cases of harming people. After thinking about it over and over again, I gradually came to my senses and started to believe that there was a high chance the Almighty God cult fed people with nothing but lies. Since then, I’ve got completely disillusioned with the cult and fully realized its evil nature and hazards. After turning back from the wrong path, I deeply regretted my foolishness in the past.
My Grandma is so old that she deserves to enjoy her old age in peace, but instead she suffers a family mess like this in her old age all because of the evil cult. My younger sister has run away from home for quite a long time and no one in the family has ever heard a word from her. She was so deeply influenced by fallacies of the Almighty God cult that she abandoned her family and forsook her career. My dear litter sister, where are you now? We all miss you so much, hoping you could be home soon. And how could you ruthlessly leave your family behind while mom and dad love you so much? My little sister, please come back home!
